Cardinals acquire pitcher Troy Percival. Your Thoughts???
Well like i've seen before it's worth repeating that it's a minor league contract so the cardinals really can't get burnt with this deal. So there for it's a great deal.

Troy was throwing batting practice with the Angels as an extra coach and obviously he's built his arm back up to strength. I don't think that Troy would come back if he couldn't do it. Not again. He has to be feeling better then when he tried to come back last time. And like i said if it's not workin then the cardinals still wont get burnt. It may be a few weeks but if Troy is throwing good in the minors and even if he's not throwing really good the cardinals still will probably bring him up for a bit. The bullpin has been very good for the cardinals so far. But one of our bullpin guys just got the call up and it was a surprise. Not to say he doesn't belong in the big leagues beacause that's yet to be seen out of the new call up Cavazo's, but Troy was a proven pro and if he can even get close to where he used to be, then he will be in the cardinals bullpin here shortly. Besides, Tony likes his veterans.

I like the comment about Ankiel...coz it's almost true Ankiel does actually have a chance to make it back to the bigs, however, i don't think it will be this year. So Tagushi and Chris Duncan are free agents at the end of this year and the we'll have to see what walt decides about them and Ryan Ludwick as well. Colby Rasmus, Henry Rodrigez, Skip Schumaker...those are all the outfielders battling to make it back up and in Colby's case for the first time, to the big league roster right now. If not for the diehard cardinal fan you prolly don't know who they are but they're all hitting good enough for a deserving mention and certainly are in the mix for future Cardinal roster spots. One other guy i will mention is actually a first basemen in the minor league system named Joe Mather. He's tearing the cover off the ball in double a! Check him out.
Reply:Wow, another ex-Angel from that 2002 title team....I think he might give em some short-term help and will probably be a good clubhouse influence for the pitching staff but I doubt he'll be lights-out like he was in his prime though.
Reply:Nelly Olson married Percival. Remember him? Harriet hired him to cook in their restaurant because Nelly couldn't cook anything. It probably isn't the same Percival. Although he did play baseball in one episode. Hmmm...
Reply:Wow, it is still a minor league contract. I think that Rick Ainkiel has a better chance of making the team as an outfielder then Percival does. Not saying i dont like either guy, but percival's forearm injury was pretty bad.
Reply:Honestly I don't think its going to help them all that much. He didn't have it when he retired and now he's a couple years older. Maybe he's finally healthy again and his arm is back, but that team needs a lot more help than he can provide.
Reply:I am a huge Cardinal fan and this move is low risk with a high potential of upside.

In an ideal situation, Percival can regain his old form and move into the 8th inning role. Ryan Franklin has been a pleasant surprise there, but may need to move to the starting rotation. Can you believe Todd Wellmeyer, who couldn't make it with the Cubs, is in our rotation?

Go cards!

Reply:His audition several days ago had a lot of interested eams taking a look, which peaks mightily about the dearth of pitching. He will prove to be better pick up then Roger with the Yanks, though the Cardinals are more than one arm away from becoming a serious contender. Percival will help, though.
Reply:why
Reply:i was mad at troy for coming to detroit and getting hurt one month into the season after signing a 10 million dollar 2 year contract. i've since found out he bought a suite for the players wives at comerica park for the next several years with some of that money. pretty good way to spend money that wasn't deserved. i wish him the best in st louis. they need the help. i just wish he would have come back to detroit and helped out our depleted relief staff.
Reply:Pitching is always in short supply.
Reply:they still bite!!!!!!!!!!!! go reds
